The Basics of Family Law.

The purpose of this blog post is to explain what child custody means.  And to explain what parenting time means.  Custody and parenting time have different meanings in Kentucky.

First, Custody is the right to make important decisions regarding a child’s education, culture, religion, and health.  In Kentucky, it is presumed that both parents will share custody of their children.

Second, in Kentucky, parenting time is the amount of time each parent spends with their children when the parents are separated.  In Kentucky, it is presumed each parent will get equal time with their children.

Unfortunately, to establish child custody and parenting time you must file in family court.  If you have any questions involving family law, please contact my office.  I would be happy to work with you.
